Studio staff & volunteer team
A small nonprofit runs on its people — a working board, a compact staff, and the parent volunteers who make every session possible.
Direction & board
Studio Creative Play is led by its director, Khahtee V. Turner, who works with the studio board to steward the organization’s mission — from the children’s studio curriculum to the Brooklyn–Berkeley Creative Arts Contest. Board members, staff and program participants share a common confidence in the mission: that holistic creative enrichment belongs to every age group.
Direction shows up in daily practice as well as on paper — in how sessions are planned, how creative portfolios are reviewed with families, and how the studio keeps its doors open to multi-cultural communities across Brooklyn.
The volunteer team
Every parent or caregiver enrolled in a children’s studio program volunteers for one session over the three-month cycle. Volunteers are not extras — they co-teach alongside the studio’s educators, partner in Free-Play with other families, and assist in the documentation that fills each child’s creative portfolio.
The arrangement keeps the studio’s small ratios honest, gives parents a window into the Holistic Process approach, and makes Studio Creative Play a genuinely cooperative project. Read more about how parents take part.
Join the team
Volunteers and teaching artists are always welcome to introduce themselves. Whether you would like to support a single session or bring a discipline — movement, music, drama, sign-language, storytelling — into the studio’s weekly themes, contact the studio or review the application process.
